BASIC CHARACTERISTICS OF OUR SCHOOL
School is an elementary and compulsory education lasting 8 years.The age of children is 6-14.The school is attended by 365 pupils and this is considered to be a small school.The social and economic status of the partners is high which translates into high aspirations for success and knowledge of their children. Most of the pupils have joined numerous extra-curricular activities (drama groups, choires,astronomy group,sports groups,oratory and public speaking groups) and extra-school activities(language school classes,music schools, sports club).The school is aware that it is of utmost importance to join various projects. thus, after several years of work in protecting and preserving the envirnment,school were given the status of European Eco-school in 2000. School tasks are the following:
-collecting and sorting of waste,
-saving and rationalizsing water consumption,
-electricity savings.
The responsibilities of the Eco-school imply that we are raising ecological awareness of school pupils as well as correcting bad habits.In this process everyone is included:pupils, parents,staff, and local community. School role is to get informed, and not only to make school environment more attractive. School are ready for global education.
The school aslo participates in the project:\"Migration and crosscultural relations, achallenge to European schools\". Regarding this projects school have set the following goals:
-intrgrate foreign children (in school case Albanian children)
-develop tolerance to differences
-learn about custom and tradition,maintain and mark them(Albanians)
-develop social skills in pupils (active listening,co-operative relation,tolerance,self-understanding and understanding others, non-violent resolving of conflicts,ethical analysis and responsibile behaviour towards yourself and towards others,participating in humanitarian actions, accepting \"different\" pupils:those with disorders and difficulties,as well as talented ones).
The school is included in the project:Education for a democratic civil society,a precondition for systematic actions in the field of upbringing and education for human rights. School aim is to teach children about human rights, teach them how to defend them.Most of the stated goals are being realised through regular and elective classes,lectures for pupils and their partners,talks,creative workshops and humanitarian actions.School have planned to organise a presentation for perents and teachers on the topic:Albania and Croatia-similiaties and differences (custom, culture,religion).The talks after the presentation will also cover the experience of school forein pupils in their process of integration.
School are devoting a lot ot time and care to approach each pupil individually. The scholl ia also paying much attention to futher training, education and specialisation of teachers. Most of school teachers participate in additional educational programmes organised by the Croatian Ministry of Education and Sports,as well as in the programmes of various associations:Amnesty International of Croatia and Forum for freedom in upbringing.
On the World Teacher\'s Day the School was awarded the recognition by the Minister of Education for its creative work.
