Erasmus ID code: N-Stavanger 01
The University of Stavanger (UiS) has about 8000 students and 900 employees (2005).
UiS is organised in three faculties: The Faculty of Arts and Education, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Science and Technology.
The Comenius 2.1 project initiative is connected to the Faculty of Arts and Education. This Faculty is divided in two centres and four departments: the National Centre for Reading Education and Research (the Reading Centre), the Centre for Behavioural Research, the Department of Music and Dance, the Department of Cultural Studies and Languages, the Department of Education, and the Department of Early Childhood Education.
The University of Stavanger (UiS) has considerable experience in the migration studies area and in intiatives related to intercultural education:
UiS has coordinated several Socrates initiatives focusing on migration and interculturality the last few years:
- Comenius 2 In-service training courses for teachers (migration/intercultural relations) each year since 2001 with some 30 students each year.
- Comenius 3 Networks: a three year Comenius 3 Network started up late 2002 (MIR Migration and Intercultural Relations 101605-CP-1-2002-1-NO-COMENIUS-C3, and another network starting up its three year contract in 2005/2006, the LearningMigration Comenius 3 Network 225585-CP-1-2005-1-NO-COMENIUS-C3. These networks are fairly large organisations involving a great number of institutions Europe.
- Erasmus Curriculum Development Project: developing a Joint MA programme in Migration studies (2003-2006), 29666-IC-1--2002-1-NO-ERASMUS-PROGUC.
In addition to acting as coordinator of these initiatives UiS has been partner of other EU intiatives that involves activities in intercultural education and research on migration didactics, in addition to being partner of two MINERVA initiatives with particular emphasis on use of ICT and internet based teaching.
In the new Comenius 2.1 initiative UiS will have a particular responsibility of running ICT and web-support for the partnership, in addition to link activities of the Comenius MentorMigration to activities in Comenius 3 network LearningMigration (coordinator by UiS).
