I am a programme manager of a mentoring programme called Nightingale, ("Naktergalen" in Swedish) Students at Malmo University can apply to become a mentor to a child 8-12 years of old. The mentor and child get together for around 2-3 hours once a week over the period from October to May.

The vision of the Näktergalen is to work towards a social and ethnical diversity.
The idea behind the project is that the mentor shall give the child a positive role model through a personal relationship and this will help strengthen the child´s confidence. The goal is that the child will perform better in and out of school and will be more likely to apply for university when the time comes.

So far around 800 children and 800 students have participated in the programme in Malmo.
